 Scholarships and Tuition Assistance

 2012~2013

How to Apply for Tuition Assistance and Scholarships

All tuition assistance at Saint Bernard School is based on demonstrated financial need. Saint Bernard School administers the FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment Program to help evaluate a family’s ability to contribute toward their child’s education and to process all tuition assistance applications. With the help of FACTS, Saint Bernard makes the fairest possible determination regarding the level of assistance it can offer.   The process involves balancing individual family need, the number of families applying and the total available aid.

You may apply online for tuition assistance for the 2012-2013 school year beginning November 1st; applications are due no later than January 1, 2013.

How You Can Help Support Saint Bernard School's Scholarship Fund

There are two ways to make a gift to help Saint Bernard School provide scholarships to students: restricted giving and endowment giving.  No matter which you choose, your gift will have an impact on students at the school.  Below explains the difference between restricted and endowed gifts and will help you select the gift that best fits your objectives.

Definitions:

Restricted gifts are gifts set aside for a defined purpose, usually a scholarship.  Restricted donations pay out a fixed amount over a fixed amount of time.  They are not invested and not intended to be permanent.  There is no minimum amount required to make a restricted gift and restricted gifts may be used to support graduation scholarships for students heading to college or internal tuition scholarships.

Endowed gifts are gifts that are invested and the earnings, and in rare cases some of the principal, is used for a defined purpose.  Endowed gifts permanently provide funds to support their objectives.  Because of the work involved with managing endowed funds and because of market fluctuation, the Board of Trustees has set a minimum donation amount of $10,000 to create an endowed scholarship.  The distribution from an endowed fund can change yearly depending on the performance of the fund.  Because the school encourages support of current students over graduating students endowed funds may not be established to support college scholarships.
