These
scholarships are applied for by completing the Common Scholarship application
form. If financial need is a criterion, student must also apply for tuition
assistance at
Thomas H. Engelke ('84) Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 for a student with financial need who is actively involved in the St. Bernard community.
Eric B. Evans ('87) Memorial Scholarship: Managed by the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Norwich. Approximately $1,000 awarded to a worthy and able student of St. Bernard High School who has financial need.
Lombardi Scholarship: Managed by the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Norwich $1,000.
Auxilia and Jeremiah Lowney Scholarship: $1,000 for a student from a family with more than one child at St. Bernard High School and with financial need.
McGee Scholarship: Managed by the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Norwich. $1,000.
Dorothy Planeta Scholarship: $500 - $1,000 to one or more students from single parent families needing financial assistance.
Francis Michael "Bic" Rodowicz '93 Memorial Scholarship Fund: $600 for student of good character who has financial need. Academic achievement is an important, but not limiting, qualification.
Joshua J. Sawyer('99) Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 tuition scholarship for a continuing student (from any parish) who will enter sophomore, junior or senior year in September, 2010. Criteria are financial need, merit in academics and good character.
Reverend Leo S. Sutula Scholarship: Students with financial need. Preference will be given to students from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Quaker Hill.
Maura Sprecace Dunn ('78) and Therese Sprecace Memorial Scholarship: $500 to a Junior girl for her Senior year based on academic and athletic achievement and leadership qualities.
Adam Tharp Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 scholarship for a student in financial need, preferably a hockey player or other athlete.
PARISH SCHOLARSHIPS: These scholarships do not need to be applied for.
Ralph Austin Memorial Scholarship: Up to $475 for a student who is a registered parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, Montville.
Reverend Russell L. Boisvert Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 for a student who is a registered parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church, Montville.
James J. Hobin ('72) Memorial Scholarships: (3) Three $1,000 scholarships to incoming freshman who are graduates of St. Joseph's, New London, St. Mary's, New London and St. Bernard Middle School who have shown merit in academics, are of good character and have financial need. Candidates are nominated by the pastors of St. Joseph and Saint Mary's parishes, and the principal of St. Bernard Middle School.
Our Lady of Lourdes Guild Scholarship: $500 for a child or grandchild of a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Guild. If none, then any student who is a registered parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish.
The Mary Raimondi Memorial Scholarship: $500 awarded to a graduate of St. Joseph School, New London who has shown leadership in academics and has financial need. Student is nominated by the administration of St. Joseph School, approved by the Catholic Women's Club of New London and selected by the administration of St. Bernard School.
St. Agnes Church Women's Club Scholarship: (2) Two $500 scholarships to students who are registered parishioners of St. Agnes Church, Niantic. Criteria are financial need and merit in academics.
The Joshua J. Sawyer('99) Memorial Scholarship: $500 awarded to an incoming freshman graduating from St. Patrick Cathedral School, Norwich. If there is more than one candidate, the principal of St. Patrick School will nominate a recipient.
Margaret Twomey-Reagan Scholarships: $2,000 per year for each graduate of St. Joseph School, New London who attends St. Bernard High School.
OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS These scholarships must be applied for separately.
Thomas N. Cairns Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 for an incoming freshman who exhibits St. Bernard values of spirit, scholarship and community. Financial need relevant, but not sole factor in evaluation. Candidates must apply by April 1 by submitting a handwritten application and essay. Applications may be obtained in Advancement office. Catholic Foundation Scholarship: $1,000-$2,500 Norwich Diocese Catholic School student in financial need. Applications may be obtained in the Advancement office after January 1, 2010. Deadline April 30, 2010.
James A. Greenleaf, Jr. ('87) Memorial Scholarship: (1) One $3,000 scholarship and (4) four $500 book scholarships for incoming freshmen. (3) Three $2,000 renewable scholarships for students entering grades 10-12. Applications at: www.jamesgreenleaf.org or Advancement office. Deadline May 1, 2010.
John T. and Helen T. Mooney Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 to a St. Bernard student entering grade 10-12 the following September. Applications at: http://sites.google.com/site/mooneyscholarship/ or Advancement office. Deadline April 1, 2010.
Principal's Scholarships: (4) Four separate scholarships ranging from $500 to full tuition awarded to the top 4 scorers on the first scheduled Entrance Exam on November 21, 2009.
St. Edmund's Honor Scholarship: $1,000 tuition scholarship awarded to a Junior for his/her Senior year. Student must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and be actively involved in service to the Church, the civic community and the St. Bernard community. St. Bernard administration nominates three candidates who then write an essay on "The Challenges of living a life of the virtue in the world today." St. Edmund's then chooses recipient.
