Saint Bernard Middle School

Founded in 1997, Saint Bernard Middle School is the only dedicated Roman Catholic Middle School in the Diocese of Norwich.  Admission is open to all students in grades 6 through 8, regardless of religious background or affiliation.  Enrollment is open to applicants who meet our academic standards, as measured by an entrance examination, review of previous academic performance, and personal interview.

The Middle School 'Saints' enjoy full use of the Saint Bernard School campus.  The classrooms, including a full science lab, occupy a separate wing of Saint Bernard's academic area.  All classrooms are networked and have computers with Internet access.  Individual class size is limited to 20 students in sixth grade and 25 in grades seven and eight.  Student athletes have use of the athletic complex.  In addition, the Middle School shares use of the library, computer labs, multi-media center, skills center, chapel, auditorium, nurse, bookstore, cafeteria, weight room, gymnasium, and locker rooms.

Although the Middle School students share facilities, ride the same buses, follow the same school calendar and bell system, and participate in school-wide liturgical programs, we recognze the need to define social boundaries and differences between high school and middle school students.  SBMS and SBHS students are separated, but not segregated, during the day to maintain real social distance.  Different school uniforms make our students distinctive.

Saint Bernard Middle School is proud of its staff, students, and traditions.  Honesty, respect, integrity, courtesy, faith, honor, and character are hallmarks of our students and we celebrate their commitment to a faith-based education.  It is not a coincidence that the majority of the Middle School graduates choose to continue their education in the high school program, nor that we enroll siblings of our graduates year after year.
