Requirements of International Students for Admission to Saint Bernard High School

At Saint Bernard High School we base admission on factors that are important for success. Among those are your grades, class rank, high school courses, and in some cases, recommendations from teachers and counselors. We do not use any single criterion for admission. However, the most important factor is your academic performance and course work.

International Students

All international students must undergo assessment of their academic skills according to students’ assessment policies established by Saint Bernard School.

Prior to admission, a prospective international student must demonstrate the following:

  • Academic ability to succeed in the chosen field of study.

  • Adequate command of the English language to succeed in the chosen field of study.

  • Submit a complete OFFICIAL transcript from all secondary institutions attended with certified English translation of said transcript.

  • Scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL). 450 is the minimum necessary score for admission to SBHS credit programs.

  • Adequate financial support to complete the chosen field of study. Each international student must complete a financial support form and return it with his/her application.  In addition, the student must submit official documentation showing (a) the person providing the financial support has the necessary funds, and (b) the funds can be transferred from the student’s home country to the United States.

  • Submit an Affidavit of Support from a sponsor in the U.S.A. or abroad.
  • The international student him/her self and/or their sponsoring institution are responsible for the international student’s housing.

  • All international students must have health insurance and must present evidence of coverage. Students without insurance will not be allowed to register.

  • It is the international student’s responsibility to obtain all required visas, passports, and documents required by the Immigration Department of the United States. International students already in the U.S.A. on a student visa also have the responsibility for renewal and continuation of their permits to remain in the U.S.A.

  • Admission date: for Fall admission (first semester) international students must apply no later than 01 May. Applications after that date may not be accepted. There are no Spring semester admissions.
