Middle School Academics

Saint Bernard Middle School provides a safe, nurturing environment while offering a challenging and comprehensive curriculum.  Our Middle School aims to insure a well-balanced curriculum that includes academic and religious orientation in a college preparatory environment.

Within the Middle School, the faculty works as a team on cross-curricular assignments and projects.  It is expected that skills learned in one class will be applied to all other classes.  Students may be divided into smaller groups within a class in order to meet their needs.  Grouping is always flexible so that students may move from one group to another depending on their level of academic ability.

Academic Resources

Middle school students requiring additional services beyond those provided by our faculty may do so through the Skills Center.  Saint Bernard School does not provide comprehensive Special Education services for students who have serious learning problems.

High School Level Placement Availability

Eighth grade students are eligible for placement into High School level Math and Foreign Language on the basis of placement tests given to all seventh-grade students.  Eligible students are not required to take the advanced courses although it is strongly recommended.

Curriculum

Students study a core concentration in Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies each year.  In addition to their core subjects, students have 'special' instruction in Art, Music (choral and instrumental), Computer Technology, and Physical Education.  Study halls are kept to a minimum.  There is no guarantee that a student will have a study hall in his/her schedule.
