Show gratitude to Saint Bernard teachers both past and present, retired, active and deceased faculty who have made a difference in your educational foundation. Teachers play a vital role in our educational journey and Saint Bernard teachers have been exceptional throughout the years. Take the time to show your appreciation and respect for the finest team of teachers that have dedicated their professional lives in making a difference for Saint Bernard students.

How it works:

Honor Thy Teacher

Mr. Wayland Currie:  In my fourteen years of education there were several classes I barely passed. Only one teacher took the time to ask me why and let me know that if I did my work and did my best on the tests, he would pass me – that teacher was Mr. Currie. What an amazing teacher! Although history did not click with me, I loved his classes. Teaching is not a job or chore for him, it is something he loves to do. That comes across clearly. His passion and enthusiasm for history was infectious and impressive. Mr. Currie said teachers do not get to see the end result of their work like the way carpenters can stand back and admire their work. In this student’s life your work was admirable. You taught me to be passionate about my work, to be caring and fair. You are the teacher who had the most impact on my life. How lucky the students are today and past that have had such a shining teacher in their life? Thank you, thank you, and thank you.

Suzanne Rathbone Fisher, Class of 1977

Mr. Mike Doyle:  Mr. Mike Doyle taught several math classes that I took during my years. He had the unique ability to take challenging material and break it down into a logical presentation. This was instrumental in the developing of my math skills along with a lot of other students. In the numerous math and math related courses that I subsequently took in my engineering studies there were few, if any, professors who had this exceptional ability for teaching complex material. It is a tribute to St. Bernard’s that they had such a high level of dedicated teachers.

Stan Zaist, P. E., Class of 1969

Sister Lorraine Marie (formerly known as Sister Lucienne):  Honored for being not only a highly intelligent teacher, but also the kindest, gentlest, most caring teacher I have ever known.  Her commitment to her students was limitless.  May she rest in peace.

For all the teachers who patiently nurtured and educated me, throughout my 4 years at St. Bernards.  The education has sustained me through my life in more ways than imaginable!

Fr. Boisvert: for his bright morning smile, it filled me with sunshine each day!

Mr. and Mrs. Currie: for their incredible patience and fortitude, in all things math and economics!

Mrs. Bouley: in typing – for her kindness in all things tardy and recognizing some of “that” might be cultural.

Mrs. Bedniar: in history – for her unapologetic “lets get down to work” with no frills but tons of love.

Brother Cormack: for his aesthetic eye in all things photographic, as well as, the charming twinkle in his eye for all things St. Bernard.

Grand thanks always, for all the spirituality received through all the priests, brothers, and nuns.  Most especially through the masses and music through Frs. Scully and Carinii.

With Love and Thanks, Daria Petrilli-Eckert, Class of 1973

Sister George Edward:  You made a difference in my life.  Thanks!

Ann Fallon, Class of 1967

In Honor of Minerva Morris:

Mrs. Morris taught us how to write…

in the days when we went to the library and used the card catalog and micro fiche

When footnotes were copied onto index cards and we all knew the meaning of Ibid. and Op. cit.

when papers were typed onto onion skin paper and we were the spelling and grammar checkers

when "delete" meant taking the paper out of the typewriter and erasing it by hand

Mrs. Morris taught us…

that we could do a 5-page research paper every three weeks [without a computer]

that we could find interesting topics and develop new ideas

that we could learn to follow directions and still think for ourselves that everyone could love "William Shakesbear"

that she really did like her students, especially the ones who challenged her

that writing was a skill that we could use throughout our life -- and she was right!

Elizabeth Cawley Anderson, Class of 1983, Director of Marketing & Communications [writer, editor, and mentor to writing interns], University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy

In Honor of:

Mr. Williams: Thanks for always making time to chat

Mr. Smith: Thanks for your support, guidance and warm smile, always

Mr. St. Germain: Thanks for being a great and memorable teacher

Brother Gus: Rest in Peace, you always gave your time and had comporting words and advice

Pam Diana: Your energy, great smile, and creative ideas were infectious

My experience at Saint Bernard was wonderful.  While I was always in the shadow of my more intellectual siblings and friends, Saint Bernard’s gave me the opportunity to learn and grow into the person I am today.  I am grateful to each teacher that gave me the opportunity to have a private education.

Kim Paradis Blanchard, Class of 1980

Father Jack Scully: He helped me through some of the most difficult times, as my family underwent several tragedies. Without his encouragement, support, and prayers I would not have made it through those tough times.  Fr. Jack was such an integral part of life then, that when I married, he was the one to perform the marriage ceremony. A year later, he christened my first born. When my 25 year reunion came around, I drove up to Vermont to visit with him. I have a picture that I keep in my office of our reunion. Whenever my job becomes too overwhelming, or I just need to re-focus, all I have to do is look at that photograph and the stress and fatigue vanishes.

Go Saints! Rose C (Orlando) Adams, Class of 1977

Sister Therese Vanasse, DHS: she always referred to me as her “Sunshine” when in fact, she was mine.  I thank her for strengthening my faith and spirit!

Jo Ann Holmes, Class of 1993

Ms. Sara McGrath: Thank you for everything!

Donna Julian

Sister Helen Philip Belliveau, DHS: Latin I, II, III – Sister taught us Latin in the 1970’s, each class began with a vocabulary quiz! “Salve Soror!” Thanks for making Latin Fun! “Deo Gratias!”

Father James J. Sucholet, Class of 1980
