About SBS
Saint Bernard School is the only Roman Catholic co-educational college preparatory school in the Diocese of Norwich for students in grades 6 through 12. We serve students from more than 50 communities in southeastern Connecticut. Enrollment is open to all applicants who meet our academic standards, as measured by an admission test and review of their previous academic performance.
Scholarship, Spirit, and Community are fundamental shared values at Saint Bernard. They help to define our approach to education and our institutional vision. Saint Bernard seeks students who value academic excellence, personal and spiritual growth, and a commitment to community. See a Slideshow on Service at SBS, that was done by John Francisconi, class of 2009, when he was a senior.
The school’s curriculum focuses on college acceptance and is fortified by religious studies. The requirement of religion classes in our school curriculum helps to provide a Christian values system consistent with the Gospels. Students will sharpen their skills of critical thinking, interpersonal communications, decision-making, community involvement, and become truly self-actualized individuals.
Founded in 1956 as an academically rigorous diocesan Catholic high school for girls, Saint Bernard School has been co-educational since 1958. In 1997, Saint Bernard Middle School (grades 6 – 8), was established and fills one wing in the facility with 110 students. The majority of the graduating middle school students continue their Saint Bernard experience in the High School.
